Before it happened, we were enjoying life….

We met in 1984 and have enjoyed a good life, and sometimes not so good.  This selfie was taken 45 days before Dan’s stroke. We had no idea what was going to come and be the most devastating time of our lives.  All of our historical rough patches combined could not equal this challenge we were about to face.

It Happened…

Dan and I  have always been night owls.  Sunday, June 10th 2018, about 11:30pm, my husband could not answer a simple question.  He seemed to be tongue tied, which was so unlike him.  At first, I thought he was just acting up, one of his character flaws, in my humble opinion.  Then I asked him to stick out his tongue and it went sideways.  I realized he was probably having a stroke.  I tried rushing him to the car, so we could get to the emergency room asap.  He said he was just tired and wanted to go to bed.  (Being stubborn is another character flaw, but I must confess that I have that one, too.)  Finally he agreed to go the hospital and on the way to car, he collapsed.  Of course, I called 911.  Dan suffered a second, more severe stroke in Intensive Care a few days later.  So began the long journey toward recovery.

After three years, we were still coping with the impact of the stroke, yet there was hope and we enjoy some bright moments.

He was my muse….

Now that my husband passed away in August of 2021, I use my poems and art as therapy.

Offering programs, like “Drawing Out Your Soul” gives me an opportunity to serve others.
